Robert Laycock is a checked expert witness and is instructed by a number of legal firms each year. Usually, cases are settled on the basis of the expert report before they come to court. Two recent cases of major importance which did "go the distance" were:
Somergreen Turf won their planning appeal against Somerset County Council and several other local councils in July 1997, using Robert Laycock as an expert witness. If this appeal had failed it would have represented a threat to all well-managed modern cultivated turf farms.
By confirming that cultivated turf is an agricultural crop, this case will help other turf producers in the future and ensure that high quality turf continues to be available for use in landscaping and sports turf.
Robert Rice, trading as The Garden Guardian, won his case against Great Yarmouth Borough Council in May 1999, using Robert Laycock as an expert witness in a case which is of great significance to landscape companies working for local authorities in the UK.
